Our Electronics Client is looking to appoint a Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer to join them at an exciting expansion time within their company. They have new programs starting shortly and seek interesting candidates to join them and contribute to their long term success.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
This position offers the successful candidates the opportunity to take a key role in delivering on an exciting strategy, servicing top tier customers in aerospace and defence in the push towards a new class of urban air transport and ‘more electric aircraft’ by developing smaller, lighter and more power efficient solutions.
We are looking for an experienced power electronics engineer, responsible for all aspects of design, development and testing of electrical power converter assemblies used in a wide variety of high reliability applications for aerospace and defence. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow with the business and develop new skills working with world recognised experts in this field. We are ideally looking for the successful candidates to have complimentary skills in magnetics design but are open to develop this area of skills for the right person.
Responsibilities include:
- Review of customer specifications to determine the optimal power converter topology, ensuring full product compliance with industry standards such as DO-160 environmental requirements.
- Write the electrical sections of customer proposals and take ownership of compliance matrix responses for all electrical and electromagnetic compatibility aspects of the final product.
- Determine and specify the magnetic requirements of magnetic components used within converters.
- Develop power converter solutions for products by studying customer requirements liaising closely with team members to agree the mechanical and thermal aspects of a power converter.
- Electrical modelling of power converter concepts; creation of schematics for use in quoting and production; work with the configuration management team, providing support and compliance guidance.
- Support the power conversion aspects of product design reviews.
- Confirm product integrity and performance by developing test plans and procedures for design assurance testing and qualification testing.
- Develop high level manufacturing test plans that can be used by the Test Engineers at the manufacturing sites. Follow through with the TE’s to ensure the electrical performances of the products is as expected, and being monitored using a 6 sigma methodology.
- Development of standard template designs of converter sub-blocks.
- Working with collaborative partners in the development of new technology for power electronics
- Interaction with other company sites to co-ordinate technology and product development.
- Provide electrical design support for product failures, involving collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends in our products and then reporting findings to key stakeholders.
- Operate effectively and responsively as a team player, providing engineering information to key stakeholders, freely sharing expertise.
- Provide supportive advice, coaching and mentoring technicians and junior engineers.
- Technically leading converter development projects.
- Supporting development of commercial proposals (cost estimation) and grant funding applications.
- Design and develop magnetic components used within converters and standard magnetics.
Required: - Good Electrical / Electronic Engineering Degree

Preferable: - Experience in the Aerospace industry strongly preferred
- Development experience of DC-DC power converter(s)
- Software development knowledge
- Team or project management experience
- Higher qualification (MSc, PhD) in relevant field
